I came to US in March of 2006 to start a new life with my parents, brother and sister. Every Friday and Saturday, after a long hard week at work, I would go to Roccapulco or Cocomo’s for Salsa dancing. I got my passion and love for salsa from my uncle who was a 3 time Mambo champion in Peru. I myself have been dancing Afro- Peruvian since I was 12 years old. Afro-Peruvian was my background and inspiration until I saw Afinkao Dance Company performing at the Down Low Lounge in Berkeley. I was impressed with the softness and release of movement, so I decide this was the Salsa Company I wanted to join. I was always disappointed with other salsa groups until I watch Afinkao and they amazed me. I met Tellina after my jazz class at The Beat Dance Studio and she invited me to audition for the Afinkao technique team. I auditioned and made it! After my first day with the team I knew I had made the right choice. JC is not only an amazing teacher, but also and wonderful person. He introduced me to an infinite mix of movements based on Mambo and Afro- Cuban rhythms.
